Former Jag Adam Lind In Final Vote To Become American League All-Star

Former Jag Adam Lind In Final Vote To Become American League All-Star

NEW YORK ? Former University of South Alabama baseball player Adam Lind is one of five players eligible to be voted as the 33rd and final member of the American League All-Star team.

The Final Vote allows fans across the globe to select the last member of each All-Star team. Lind, a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, is up against Chone Figgins of the Los Angeles Angels, Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers, Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers and Carlos Pena of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Each of the five nominees was selected by American League manager Joe Maddon. Fans have until 4 p.m. ET on Thursday to cast their ballots by clicking here or visiting MLB.com. There is no limit on how many times each fan can vote, and the winners will be announced on MLB.com shortly after voting concludes.

Entering Monday’s game, Lind is hitting .310 with 18 home runs and 57 RBI. Lind’s RBI total is the best among the five nominees, and only Figgins (.312) has a higher batting average.

Lind, who played at USA from 2003-04, was left off of the original All-Star ballot because he entered the season as Toronto’s starting designated hitter. With the 2009 All-Star Game in St. Louis, teams will not use the DH, but Lind has seen significant action in the outfield in recent weeks.

If he is selected, Lind will become the fourth former Jag to play in an All-Star Game, and the first to play for the American League. Lance Johnson was a National League All-Star in 1996, Jon Lieber played for the NL in 2001, and Luis Gonzalez played for the NL in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
