COMPLETE SWEEP BEHIND DOAN'S COMPLETE GAME SHUT OUT

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A dominant
pitching performance from Joey Doan and four Jaguar homeruns were
enough for South Alabama to capture an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon
in Little Rock, Ark. The win gives USA a three-game sweep of the
Trojans.
Doan threw his
second consecutive complete game, improving to 4-2 on the season.
USA improves to 25-15 on the season and 7-5 in SBC play. Guillermo
Martinez, Patrick Weaver, David Doss and Aaron George all went deep
in the win.
The Jags opened
the scoring in the top of the third inning. Martinez took a Brian
Harmon 1-0 fastball, deep over the left field fence. For Martinez
it was his fourth homerun of the season. For USA it was the seventh
long ball of the three-game series.
USA put up a
three spot in the top of the fourth inning. Jeff Cunningham led
off with a walk, which was followed by a Doss homerun to right center
field. George then followed with a rocket home run to right field.
For USA, it was the fifth time this season that Jag batters have
hit back-to-back homeruns.
South Alabama
added to its lead in the fifth inning, eventually chasing Harmon
from the game. Weaver led off the fifth with his third homerun of
the weekend. Freese was then drilled with the next pitch from Harmon.
Home plate umpire, David Schexnydre issued warnings to both benches.
Freese went to second on wild pitch and scored on a Doss single.
With two out Martinez walked and took second on another wild pitch
by Harmon. UALR then went to the bullpen for Adam Miller. Collins
greeted him with a solid single to left, plating the seventh USA
run for a 7-0 lead.
Jones led off
the top of the sixth with USA’s first double of the game.
Weaver then followed with a bounding-ball base hit to center field,
plating Jones for an 8-0 USA lead.
The final USA
run scored in the game came in the bottom of the eighth. Freese
led off the inning with a base hit. The hit extended his hitting
streak to 11 games. Freese came around to score on a UALR throwing
error, giving USA a 9-0 lead.
Doan cleaned
up the ninth inning allowing two hits in completing the shut out.
USA is next
in action Tuesday night as they play host to Nicholls State. Game
