LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A dominant pitching performance from Joey Doan and four Jaguar homeruns were enough for South Alabama to capture an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon in Little Rock, Ark. The win gives USA a three-game sweep of the Trojans.

Doan threw his second consecutive complete game, improving to 4-2 on the season. USA improves to 25-15 on the season and 7-5 in SBC play. Guillermo Martinez, Patrick Weaver, David Doss and Aaron George all went deep in the win.

The Jags opened the scoring in the top of the third inning. Martinez took a Brian Harmon 1-0 fastball, deep over the left field fence. For Martinez it was his fourth homerun of the season. For USA it was the seventh long ball of the three-game series.

USA put up a three spot in the top of the fourth inning. Jeff Cunningham led off with a walk, which was followed by a Doss homerun to right center field. George then followed with a rocket home run to right field. For USA, it was the fifth time this season that Jag batters have hit back-to-back homeruns.

South Alabama added to its lead in the fifth inning, eventually chasing Harmon from the game. Weaver led off the fifth with his third homerun of the weekend. Freese was then drilled with the next pitch from Harmon. Home plate umpire, David Schexnydre issued warnings to both benches. Freese went to second on wild pitch and scored on a Doss single. With two out Martinez walked and took second on another wild pitch by Harmon. UALR then went to the bullpen for Adam Miller. Collins greeted him with a solid single to left, plating the seventh USA run for a 7-0 lead.

Jones led off the top of the sixth with USA’s first double of the game. Weaver then followed with a bounding-ball base hit to center field, plating Jones for an 8-0 USA lead.

The final USA run scored in the game came in the bottom of the eighth. Freese led off the inning with a base hit. The hit extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Freese came around to score on a UALR throwing error, giving USA a 9-0 lead.

Doan cleaned up the ninth inning allowing two hits in completing the shut out.
