JAGUARS UPSET NO. 23 TEXAS CHRISTIAN ON THE
ROAD

WORH, Texas - The South Alabama men's tennis team recorded
its first upset of the season against a team from the top 25 with
a 5-2 win at no. 23 Texas Christian on Tuesday. With the win, the
no. 61 Jaguars improve to 8-2 on the year. TCU (6-1) drops its first
match of the season and its bid to win its first seven games of
the season since 2004.
The Horned Frogs opened the scoring taking the doubles point by
winning two off three doubles matches. The tandem of Jacopo Tezza
and Kriegle Brink defeated Jack Baker and Robert Hodel at no. 2
doubles. TCU clinched the point as Cosmin Cotet and Andrei Mlendea
scored a tough 9-7 decision at no. 3 doubles over Sam Huffman and
Filip Kricka. USA's top doubles tandem of Dias Doskarayev and Monte
Tucker got the best of Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas, 8-6.
The Horned Frogs built a 2-0 lead as Tezza posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision
over Marek Sramek at no. 4 singles.
The Jaguars continued to fight hard and cut into the lead as Hodel
defeated Freitas, 6-4, 6-3. USA tied the match at 2-2 Baker unseated
Mlendea 6-1, 7-6 and the Jaguars took a 3-2 lead as Tucker defeated
Abreu, 7-6, 6-2 at the number one position.
USA clinched the match with a win at number six singles as R.J.
Nagel defeated Brink in a tough come-from-behind three set match,
4-6, 6-2, 6-3. USA then won the fifth team point as Doskarayev defeated
Cotet, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
USA heads to the HEB Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning
Thurs., Mar. 2 and it runs through Mar. 4.
