With help from a two hit, three RBI performance from Billy Kleinschrodt
and a clutch save by Chase Christianson, the Blue team evened the
series at two games apiece at Stanky Field on Wednesday night with
a 10-9 victory. The Blue team banged out 10 runs on 10 hits to take
game four of the 2005 Red and Blue World Series.
The Blue wasted
no time getting on the board. Clark Secchiari led off the bottom
of the first with a walk, which was followed by an RBI double by
Guillermo Martinez to right center. David Freese then singled up
the middle scoring Martinez. The Blue team also took advantage of
some sloppy Red defense, when Lance Hielsler singled with the bases
loaded, scoring Jeff Cunningham who singled and Kleinschrodt who
reached on an error. The final run of the first inning was scored
by Jeff Morris, who after being hit by a pitch, scored when Secchiari
reached on another Red error, making the score 6-0.
The Red team
battled back in the top of the second when Garrett New tripled to
left center scoring Michael Cart, who reached via a lead off walk.
Tyler Kerns then laced a run-scoring single to left, which was followed
by a walk to Jeremy Slutzky. Clint Reynolds then singled in Kerns
with a shot down the left field line, making the score 6-3. After
a walk to David Doss, Aaron George cleared the bases with a three-run
triple to left field, chasing Blue starter Brett Turner and evening
the score 6-6.
The bottom of
the third inning saw the Blue team pull ahead on a Martinez single,
that scored Jeff Morris. Klienschrodt then laced a two-out single
that plated Heisler and Secchiari. Joel Collins continued the rally
with a single down the left field line, plating Martinez to make
the score 10-6 for the Blue squad.
As the visitors,
the Red team had a chance to answer back in the next half inning.
Patrick Weaver led off with a double and was followed by an RBI
single by David Doss. Aaron George then doubled in Doss, cutting
the Red deficit to 10-8.
In the top of
the sixth, the Red team loaded the bases with nobody out, chasing
Blue pitcher John DeVisser. Christianson came on for the Blue team
and killed the rally by only allowing a sacrifice fly to Cart, while
fanning two. Christianson pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up
the save, putting the finishing touches on a 10-9 Blue victory.
The winning
pitcher for the Blue team was Kevin Nabors and Christianson picked
up his first save of the series. Wesley Love of the Red team took
the loss. Game Five of the Red and Blue World Series is set for
Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Stanky Field.
