The Red team captured a 3-2 victory in Game 7 of the annual Red
& Blue World Series Wednesday night at Stanky Field to take
the series 4-3.
The Red team
wasted no time getting on the board as they pushed across a pair
of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ben Daw doubled down
the left field line and scored when Patrick Weaver singled to left.
Michael Cart singled up the middle, moving Weaver to third base.
Aaron George then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Weaver and give the
Red team a 2-0 lead.
The top of the
second inning saw the Blue team strike back when Jeff Cunningham
reached on a dropped fly ball by Red second baseman Wesley Williams.
Billy Kleinschrodt then moved Cunningham to second and Joel Collins
followed with an RBI single to right field, cutting the deficit
to 2-1.
The Blue team
tied game in the top of the fifth. Lance Heisler singled to left
to open the frame and moved to second on a Clevon Weaver grounded
out. Guillermo Martinez then laced a double down the right field
line, tying the game at two.
The Red team
answered back in the bottom of the fifth, when Daw doubled off the
third base bag to open the inning. David Doss then sacrificed Daw
to third and with two out Cart hit a hard ground ball that Weaver,
the Blue third baseball, could not come up with, allowing Red to
take the lead 3-2 for good.
The Blue squad
threatened to tie the contest up again when left fielder Clark Secchiari
drew a two out walk. With Martinez at the plate, Secchiari, however,
was picked off at first to end the game and the series.
Zach Piccola
picked up the win in relief, while Michael Koppersmith earned the
save for the Red team. Eric Sulivant recorded the loss in relief
for the Blue squad.
