Soccer Battles with Georgia State, Falls 2-1

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama soccer fell to Georgia State 2-1 on Sunday after a Georgia State goal gave the Panthers a one-goal advantage in the 77th minute.

SCORING MOMENTS:
  • 6' | Georgia State's Sunniyah Tucker took a long ball to the box, where she would elude several Jaguar defenders to send a strike into the goal.
  • 25' | Aliya Gomes beat several defenders to take an open shot from the right side. The Panthers' goalkeeper saved the shot, but Victoria Rocci came in on cleanup duty, sending a header into the net.
  • 77' | The Panthers' Naiya St. McFarlane headed in a corner taken by Aaliyah Faddoul.

KEY STATS:
  • Victoria Rocci's goal was the second of the season and her career.
  • Rocci also recorded four shots and three shots on goal, becoming one of five Jaguars to record at least four shots in a game. Her three shots on goal marked a team single-game high this season.
  • Both teams recorded level offensive statistics, tallying nine shots, four shots on goal and three saves.
  • The Jags held the Panthers' leading forward, Aaliyah Faddoul, to one shot. Faddoul entered the match with 36 shots this season.
