Offense Explodes; Harrison Dominant in the Circle as Jags Take Down Southern Miss

LAFAYETTE, La. | South Alabama's offense erupted for a season-high 13 runs on 11 hits and had six players reach multiple times Thursday evening as the fifth-seeded Jaguars picked up a 13-0, run-rule victory over fourth-seeded Southern Miss in the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship held at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.

Staked to the early four-run lead after the opening frame, Ryley Harrison (16-12) struck out nine and allowed just three base runners as she held the Golden Eagles (33-24) to one hit in her five innings.

Up Next
•    South Alabama (30-25) will (1) ULM (38-19) in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park with first pitch set for 6 p.m.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- Opening statement: "I'm super proud of our kids. It was a great way to open up the tournament. I thought all the way around we had a ton of compete. This is the time of year that you just turn it all loose and let it go, and I thought we did that tonight. We had a ton of energy and continued to compete the entire game. I was very proud of our effort and the way we fought together."

- On Southern Miss: "Southern Miss has a great team and kudos to them. When we went to their place a couple weeks ago, it seemed like we couldn't do anything right and they could do no wrong. I'm really proud of our effort in flipping that tonight. They are a solid, well-coached team. I felt we just continued to apply pressure and that's what it's supposed to look like."

Junior RHP Ryley Harrison
- On the mindset of the team coming out and getting the quick start: "As a team, we refused to lose tonight. The last time we faced Southern Miss, we were swept by them, so it was kind of personal tonight. The offense set the tone tonight with the four runs in the first inning. Pitching with the lead is pretty easy when you have a good offense behind you."

- On what they can take from this game heading into the game with ULM on Friday: "Coach Clark says it all the time, 'Today's work doesn't win tomorrow's game.' We have to build off what we did tonight. We lost the series with them earlier this season at their place, so this is going to be another personal game for us that we just have to refuse to lose. We need to have a lot of grit and compete heading into this next game."

Freshman SS Lillie Stagner
- On the early offense: "I was just leaving it all on the field (tonight), and I give God the glory of course. It was really nice knowing that our team was coming in ready to attack. We worked very well as a team tonight."

- On what they did in preparation to face USM's Kayla Giradina: "We just came in ready to go and had an aggressive mindset. It started for us even before the game, and that's how it has to be."
