Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championship Preview

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Track & Field is set to host the 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week at Jaguar Track & Field Complex.

Championship Timeline 

  • Competition opens Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CT with the multi-events and concludes at 9:10 p.m. CT with the men's 10,000-meter final.

  • Friday begins with the conclusion of the multi-events, which are scheduled to wrap up at 4:30 p.m. CT, before ending with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase final at 8:20 p.m. CT.

  • The final day of competition starts Saturday at Noon CT with the men's triple jump and concludes with the awards ceremony at 7:45 p.m. CT.

Notes on the Jags

  • South Alabama is expected to contend in several individual events on both the men's and women's sides.

  • Reigning Sun Belt javelin champion Reuben Booysen enters the championship leading the conference with a throw of 68.97m (226-3). Jackson Laughlin ranks fifth in the league at 63.36m (207-10), while Dylan Hale sits seventh with a mark of 61.96m (203-3). On the women's side, Ava Grace Wheaton ranks third in the conference with a throw of 45.81m (150-3).

  • The Jaguars also boast two of the top three pole vaulters in the Sun Belt. Terek Logan ranks second with a clearance of 5.40m (17-8.5), while Will Frederick is third at 5.35m (17-6.5).

  • In the women's high jump, Kayden Engel enters the weekend ranked third in the conference with a clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75).

  • On the track, Brady Keller ranks second in the Sun Belt in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:49.33, while Charleen Elizondo sits second in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 16:54.82.

  • The Jaguars will look to build on last season's success with a combination of returning scorers and rising newcomers competing on their home track.
