TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | Alabama, ranked No. 1 in the nation in one of the four major polls this week, scored in four of the five innings and defeated South Alabama, 8-0 Tuesday evening at Rhoads Stadium.
Key Moments
•   South Alabama (24-18) placed a runner in scoring position in the top of the second as
Lillie Stagner drew a one-out walk and then moved into scoring position on a wild pitch with two away, but Kaitlyn Pallozzi (7-0) induced a ground out to end the inning
•   With runners at the corners, Alabama (36-3) was the first to get on the board in the bottom of the second as Marlie Giles – who had lined a one-out double, her sixth of the season – came home when Salen Hawkins reached on a Jaguar error (UA, 1-0)Â
•   With runners at first and second,
Ryley Harrison (12-8) was able to limit the Tide to the one run as she induced a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning
•   The Jaguars threatened to get the run back the next half inning as
Brooklynn Bockhaus drew a walk to begin the third and
Presley Lively reached on an error by the Tide while attempting a sacrifice bunt, but Pallozzi was able to get a double play one batter later and after a walk to Mambelli, the freshman right-hander got a fly out to left to leave two on
•   The Crimson Tide added two more runs its next time up as Ana Roman singled through the right side to score Alexis Pupillo (single) from second (UA, 2-0), and pinch runner Kinley Pate scored from third on a wild pitch (UA, 3-0)
•   The big inning for Alabama came in the fourth as the Tide scored four runs, highlighted by Wells' one-out three-run home run to right center – her 16th of the season – and Giles' two-out, RBI-double to right (UA, 7-0)
•   Wells ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a walk-off, RBI-single to left center (UA, 8-0)
Key Stats
•   Mambelli and Wine recorded the lone hits for the Jaguars, while Mambelli reached two times with her walk
•   Brooke Wells and Marlie Giles each had three hits apiece for Alabama, while White was 2-for-3 with two runs scored
•   Wells also drove in four runs, and Pupillo had a hit, walked twice and scored twice
•   South was 0-for-9 with runners on base and 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position
•   The Jags had their chances early leaving runners on base in the second, third and fourth inningsÂ
