Dees Records Eighth Multi-Hit Game of the Spring as Jags Even the Series

MOBILE, Ala. | Gracie Dees recorded her eighth multi-hit game of the spring Friday night as South Alabama evened the series with a 3-1 victory at Jaguar Field and held off a seventh-inning rally attempt by Texas State.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the win: "Scape (Sydney Scapin) gave us a great start tonight. She kept Texas State off balance and got a lot of swing and misses. They are a very good offensive team, so to hold them down was impressive. Offensively, we did some good things and had some timely hitting. I thought we missed out on a few opportunities and could have pushed a few more across to extend the lead, but it ended up being enough. Tomorrow is a big game to decide the series."

Key Moments
•    After leaving runners on base each of the first two innings, South Alabama (24-16, 8-3 SBC) was able to scratch a pair of runs across the scoreboard in its half of the third
•    Brooklynn Bockhaus walked to leadoff the inning and two batters later, Dees doubled to left to put runners at second and third, and following a pitching change, Virginia Mambelli plated a run with a RBI ground out to first (USA, 1-0)
•    Olivia Branstetter was then hit by a pitch and Kara Wine lined a RBI-single through left side of infield after nine-pitch at-bat to score the second run of the inning (USA, 2-0)
•    Karmyn Bass lined a two-out double in the Texas State (23-16, 5-6 SBC) fourth – the first hit and baserunner allowed by Sydney Scapin (6-6) – and Aiyana Coleman was intentionally walked, but sophomore right-hander maintained the Jaguar lead with a line out to third to end the inning
•    In the bottom half of the inning, Presley Lively reached on a bunt single and Bockhaus (single) advanced to third on the play on a Bobcat throwing error, before coming home one batter later on Dees' sac fly to left (USA, 3-0)
•    Texas State broke up the shutout attempt in the seventh with a run on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Kat Zarate, but Ryley Harrison retired the final two batters in the frame to pick up her fourth save of the season and even the series

Key Stats
•    Dees was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI
•    Wine also had a hit and drove in a run
•    Bockhaus reached base in both her plate appearances as she had an infield single and a walk, and scored a pair of runs
