MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Track & Field recorded 15 personal-best performances and four event wins to close the book on the Jags competition at the Josh Reidinger Invitational Friday.
A standout performance led the Jaguars from Nieko Garnes, who recorded two personal-best times and earned a victory. Garnes clocked 21.65 in the 200m and 47.40 in the 400m, with his 400m mark moving him up to No. 2 in the Sun Belt Conference and into seventh all-time in program history.
Iyana Johnson added a dominant effort in the field, capturing the women's hammer throw title with a mark of 58.14m (190-9), one of the top performances of the meet. On the men's side, Samuel Mika continued his consistent season with a trio of top-four finishes, including third in the discus (51.36m), fourth in the hammer (58.35m), and fourth in the shot put (16.94m).
In the field events, South Alabama saw multiple podium and top-five finishes. Jonathan Henderson cleared 2.09m (6-10.25) to place second in the men's high jump, while Terek Logan and Will Frederick each cleared 5.22m (17-1.5) to tie for fifth in the pole vault. Freshman Grayson Venezia added a personal-best 5.02m in the same event. On the women's side, Kayden Engel finished fifth in the high jump (1.74m), with Aubrey Evans adding a second-place finish (1.61m).
The Jaguars also showed strength in the jumps, highlighted by Samuel Warriner, who posted a personal-best 7.14m (23-5.25) in the long jump to move into ninth all-time in program history. Devin Dahunsi added a season-best 6.93m and a runner-up finish in the triple jump.
On the track, freshman Alexia Jones matched Garnes with a strong showing, recording personal-best times in both the 200m (24.46) and 400m (56.36), finishing third and fifth, respectively. Her 200m performance moved her into ninth all-time in program history. Malachi Carroll (800m, 1:54.94) and Kate Miller (800m, 2:18.68) each added PRs in middle-distance events.
South Alabama's throws group continued to impress, highlighted by a major personal-best from Brody Hamilton in the javelin (61.35m).
