MOBILE, Ala. - South Alabama (22-15, 8-7 SBC) secured the season series sweep of Nicholls State (18-19, 10-10 SLC) by a 4-3 final score on Tuesday night at Stanky Field.
Nick Richardson knocked in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to put the Jaguars in position to close it out with the victory.
PRIMARY THREADS
- The Jaguars posted a crooked number in the second inning when second baseman Brennon Wright collected two RBI on his 50th hit of the season with a single through the right side, plating Marc Stephens and Rett Johnson who both walked to find their way aboard.
- Nicholls State scored twice in the third inning before Max Miller took over with first and second and nobody out. The junior stepped up and struck out the first three hitters he saw to shut down the Colonel-pulling momentum. Miller would punch out the next two hitters in the fourth as well to make five consecutive K's in the first five hitters he saw.
- Brennon Wright tallied a third RBI after splitting the left-center field gap for a double to plate Stephens, who singled and stole second base to get in scoring position. The double grabbed the lead for the Jaguars, 3-2 after four complete.
- The score would remain true until the Nicholls half of the eighth when a solo shot tied the game at three apiece.
- Nick Richardson singled home Robert Miranda in the Jaguar half of the eighth for the late-game, go ahead run. The run made Zach Stevens the pitcher of record who slammed the door in the ninth for the win.
KEY STATS
- Team-leading three RBI on the evening for Brennon Wright tallied eight RBI in the last three games for the Jaguar lead-off man. He is 6-14 in that span.

- Marc Stephens logged a 1-2 effort at the plate with a walk and sacrifice bunt with two runs scored. Stephens increased his hitting streak to tie a season-high five games.

QUOTABLE
HEAD COACH MARK CALVI
"Give
Tyler Smith credit for making a spot-start against a really solid club. He gave us two solid innings and then our bullpen was outstanding, only giving up one run in seven innings. I think
Max Miller set the tone. He punched out five in a row. Came in, punched out the side, and I felt as though that was the game right there. A huge percentage of games are won and lost before that 27th out. I felt the game was on the line in the third. We threw Max and then
Jake Middleton out there against a lineup that showed heavy left-handed splits. Luckily, we had a couple down there that were ready to go, and then
Zach Stevens was outstanding late."
