MOBILE, Ala. | South Alabama scored four runs in the first and
Tori Miller and
Ryley Harrison made those run hold up as the Jaguars picked up a 4-1 midweek victory over Nicholls Tuesday night at Jaguar Field.
The game also marked the 1,000th in program history for the Jags, who improved to 14-7 on the season.
Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the game: "(Tori) Miller gave us a great start tonight. I thought she was efficient and when they tried to get something going in the fourth, she made pitches and didn't give up the big inning. (Ryley) Harrison gave us two solid innings on the back end to shut it down. Offensively, we had a big first inning and then pitching and defense made it stand. We have to do a better job of adjusting to the second pitcher, but we will address that in practice and get that part going."
Key Moments
• With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the first,
Lillie Stagner lined a three-run double to right scoring
Gracie Dees (double) and
Olivia Branstetter and
Kayden Dunn, who had both walked (USA, 3-0)
• A wild pitch moved Stagner to third and one batter later,
Caitlyn Gavin lined a single to left to plate the Jag shortstop and extend South's lead (USA, 4-0)
• Nicholls (10-9) got on the board in the top of the fourth as with runners at the corners, Erin Krause lifted a sac fly to center, scoring Claire Sisco, who had doubled to lead off the inning (USA, 4-1)
• The Colonels threatened to put another run on the board with a runner at third and two away in the top of the fifth, but Miller (4-0) struck out Laylin Sturm to end the inning – her eighth of the game to set a new career high for the senior
