Scapin and Miller Combine to Shut Out Trojans as Jags Clinch Series

MOBILE, Ala. | Sydney Scapin and Tori Miller combined to hold Troy's high-powered offense to just three hits and shut out the Trojans for just the second time this spring as South Alabama clinched the Sun Belt Conference series with a 7-0 win Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the win: "Our kids are competing and fighting right now. We've gotten great starting pitching. The offense has done an awesome job. Going into conference, I just wanted to see us compete every pitch. Troy is a very good team. They've got a lot of wins and some good numbers, so we knew we're going to have to dig in in order to get some wins against them. I'm very proud of our kids for their effort and their compete level. I felt like we stepped out on the field and had a lot of confidence, and we were going to make things happen, and we did."

- On the starting pitching in the series: "Our pitchers have done an awesome job. That is a powerful offense and they had really good numbers coming into conference play. For us to do what we've done and be able to shut them down is impressive, and our defense has also helped in that effort. We've made some big plays, Peanut (Presley Lively) made some big grabs in center field today. There's a lot of teamwork going on out in the field, and a lot of people working together and fighting together. The thing we have to remember is today's work doesn't win tomorrow's game. It starts all over tomorrow and we have to be ready to dig in and do the work tomorrow."

Sophomore RHP Sydney Scapin
- On how the team's playing: "We came out on fire yesterday, and then we were again able to get off to a good start and shut them (Troy) out, which was a big deal to us. We've been good on both sides of the ball, pitching and hitting. In practice, we've talked about not feeling that we've shown our full potential, so the last few games I feel that we've been getting better every time."

- On what was working for her in the circle: "I was able to keep them off balance with my change up, just moving it in and out."

Freshman DP Lillie Stagner
- On her approach at the plate: "I was just trying to be relaxed, and just have fun at the plate today."

- On the key to how the team is playing right now: "We're just going out and trying to compete. That's been the biggest thing for us. You have to be ready to compete every time you step out onto this field. That's what we're doing right now."
