South Alabama Falls to Southern Miss in Regular Season Finale

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama men's basketball closed the regular season Friday night with a 68-55 loss in the Mitchell Center. The Jaguars dropped 21-10 on the year 21-10 and 11-7 in conference play. 


Key Moments

  • South Alabama built early momentum, jumping out to a 16–9 lead midway through the first half behind strong interior play from Chaze Harris and a pair of perimeter shots from Adam Olsen and Randy Brady

  • Randy Brady added a three-pointer off a turnover during that same stretch, and the Jags controlled the glass early to create more opportunities. Southern Miss responded with a pivotal 10–1 run over a four-minute span, flipping a seven-point deficit into a lead and eventually carrying a 35-29 advantage into halftime. 

  • Southern Miss opened the second half on a 10-2 surge to push the margin to double digits, 40-29, forcing them to play on their heels for the rest of the game. 

  • Harris answered with back-to-back paint finishes and a three-point play to trim the deficit to seven at 34–41, and Randy Brady converted a steal into a layup to keep momentum within reach midway through the second half. 

  • South Alabama cut the margin to nine after a second-chance tip-in dunk from Stephen Williams and later to eight following a fast-break layup from Jayden Cooper off a Harris assist, bringing the Mitchell Center crowd back into the game.  

  •  However, Southern Miss answered with consecutive three-pointers during a 10–0 run that extended the lead to 15 and later built the advantage to as many as 18 with just over four minutes remaining.  

Key Stats

  • Chaze Harris led South Alabama with 23 points and nine rebounds while adding three steals.  Adam Olsen contributed 14 points, going 8-for-9 from the free-throw line, and Jayden Cooper added 10 points.'

  • As a team, the Jaguars shot 18-for-55 (32.7%) from the field and 4-for-22 (18.2%) from three-point range.

  •  South Alabama held a 28–24 edge in points in the paint and scored 12 second-chance points, but Southern Miss shot 10-for-24 (41.7%) from beyond the arc and received 24 bench points compared to just two from the Jaguars' bench players. 

  • The Golden Eagles controlled the glass throughout tonight's contest, outrebounding the Jags 43-30, while also shooting 44.9 percent from the floor. 

  • Southern Miss tallied 13 assists to South Alabama's four, while the Golden Eagles committed 14 turnovers to the Jags' six.
