Jags Drop Road Finale in Tight Battle at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – South Alabama dropped its final road game of the regular season Monday night, falling 84–80 to Marshall inside the Cam Henderson Center. The Jaguars move to 19–8 overall and 9–5 in Sun Belt play.

Key Moments

  • Marshall came out red hot from beyond the arc, knocking down 12 three-pointers in the first half and building a 48–35 lead at the break.

  • The Herd pushed its advantage to as many as 16 early in the second half following a three-pointer at the 16:24 mark, putting the Jags in a 57–41 hole.

  • South Alabama responded with toughness in the paint, trimming the deficit to 60–49 after a JJ Wheat fast-break layup with 14:04 remaining.

  • Adam Olsen buried a three at the 7:59 mark to cut it to 69–63, igniting a 9–4 Jaguar surge that brought the game within four.

  • Stephen Williams powered inside for a fast-break finish at 6:52 to make it 69–65 as momentum began to swing.

  • Chaze Harris continued attacking downhill, scoring on three straight paint touches to slice the margin to 77–76 with 2:07 remaining.

  • After Marshall answered with a three-pointer at 1:48, Harris converted again in the lane to make it 80–78 with 1:33 to play.

  • The Jaguars had multiple late opportunities, including a pair of second-chance looks in the final seconds, but could not get the tying or go-ahead basket to fall as Marshall secured the 84–80 decision.
