MOBILE – South Alabama junior quarterback
Jared Hollins was named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list, as announced Monday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
Hollins led the Jaguars to a Sun Belt win at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Saturday, as South Alabama took care of business in a 52-35 win over ULM. The Jags moved to 3-0 on the season at home, tying their best start since the 2022 season.
The Mobile native finished the game with 321 passing yards and three touchdowns – both were career marks. Hollins' first touchdown pass came 52 seconds into the game as he connected with
Brendan Jenkins for a 72-yard score.
Hollins then found
Anthony Eager for a 35-yard touchdown that put the Jags up 38-14. The two Mobile products connected again in the third quarter, this time for a 69-yard touchdown pass that extended the lead to 45-21.
All quarterbacks who are named to the Great 8 during the first nine weeks of the season officially join the Davey O'Brien Midseason Watch List. The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week, selected from the Great 8 list, will be revealed Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT.
Hollins and South Alabama continue league play on Thursday night at Arkansas State. The Jags and Red Wolves will air on ESPN 2 at 6:30 p.m. CT.
