BATON ROUGE, La. – South Alabama track & field teams turned in a strong all-around performance at the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational, highlighted by five event victories, multiple podium finishes, and several new entries in the Jaguars' record books.
Will Frederick continued his standout indoor campaign, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 5.10m (16-8.75). The mark ranks No. 57 nationally in the NCAA, No. 52 among Division I schools, and is a season best. Fredrick also clocked the sixth fastest time in the 60 meters with a 6.85.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Kayden Engel, Taylor Canada, Alexia Jones, and Megan Johnson closed the meet with a season-best time of 4:03.75, earning the victory.
Jordan Morrison captured the 800 meters title, crossing the line in 1:54.20.
Iyana Johnson delivered a banner day, winning the weight throw with a season-best mark of 17.94m (58-10.25) and finishing second in the triple jump at 11.74m (38-6.25).
Samuel Mika delivered a dominant day in the throws, claiming first place in the shot put with a PR throw of 17.66m (57-11.25) to secure the second-best throw in the record books, while adding a fourth-place finish in the weight throw at 18.67m (61-3.00).
Jamie Willis posted a strong meet with a second-place finish in the long jump (5.46m).
The jumps group added depth with Ashton Mitchell placing eighth in the long jump (6.75m), while Carlder Datilus competed in both the long jump and triple jump, recording 14.15m in the triple jump.
Joshua Acker posted a PR of 18.60m in the weight throw, finishing fifth place overall and claiming the fourth-best throw in the Jaguar record books.
Presleigh Montalvo turned in a strong double performance, qualifying in both the 60 meters and 60m hurdles. She placed third in the 60m hurdles final with a PR of 8.64 to place her third on the all-time list.
Abigail Amick highlighted the distance events with a PR in the 3000 meters, finishing seventh in 11:29.25.
