Jaguars Open Indoor Season with Strong Showing at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Alabama Track & Field opened the indoor season with a strong showing Friday at the Samford Invitational and Samford Clash, highlighted by multiple event victories, podium finishes, and several marks that landed among the program's all-time bests.

The Jaguars were led by a dominant day in the jumps and throws, beginning with Devin Dahunsi, who claimed the triple jump title with a leap of 15.36 meters, the second-best indoor mark in South Alabama history. Dahunsi also added a solid showing in the long jump to anchor a productive day for the Jags' horizontal jumps group.

South Alabama also made an early statement in the multi-events. On the women's side, Calli Stokes opened the indoor season the right way, winning the pentathlon with 3,460 points to take first place overall.

On the men's side, Samuel Warriner claimed the heptathlon championship, piling up 5,216 points, a total that ranks third all-time in South Alabama indoor history.

Kayden Engel picked up the win in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters to take first place, while Aubrey Evans added a podium finish with a clearance of 1.61 meters.

The throws group continued its momentum from last season with several standout performances. Samuel Mika captured the weight throw title with a throw of 18.98 meters, the second-best mark all-time for the Jaguars. Bobby Gray followed closely behind in third at 18.15 meters, placing sixth on South Alabama's indoor performance list, while Joshua Acker added a top-six finish.

On the women's side, Iyana Johnson delivered a pair of podium finishes, placing fifth in the triple jump and second in the weight throw, while Flora Dupans finished runner-up in the shot put and added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw.

In the distance events, Brady Keller opened his indoor campaign impressively, winning the men's mile in 4:10.10 before returning to place second in the 3,000 meters. Jordan Morrison added a strong performance on the track, finishing fourth in the 800 meters.
