SAN MARCOS, Texas | South Alabama (15-23, 4-7 SBC) held Texas State (25-11, 8-4 SBC) hitless through the first four innings, but the Bobcat offense struck for four runs over the last two innings to pick up a 4-0 to complete the Sun Belt Conference series sweep Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
How It HappenedÂ
•   South Alabama had an opportunity to strike first in the top of the second.
Olivia Branstetter lined a double to the gap in left center to start things off for the Jaguars and she was then sacrificed over to third by
Stephanie Gonzalez, but Madison Azua (15-4) kept the game scoreless as she retired the next two Jaguar batters.
•   Alyanna Coleman drew a leadoff walk – snapping a streak of 12-straight retired by Jag pitcher
Tori Miller (5-7) – to begin the bottom of the fifth. Pinch runner Emilee Baker was then moved into scoring position one batter later on Ciara Trahan's sacrifice bunt, who then moved to third on a passed ball. Pinch hitter Makayla Hall walked to put runners at the corner, and Mel Reeves then re-entered and stole second. Megan Kelnar then recorded the first hit by the Bobcats with a RBI single back up the middle (TXST, 1-0). One batter later, Texas State doubled its lead with a RBI ground out by Kate Bubela, scoring Reeves (TXST, 2-0).Â
•   The Jaguars had an opportunity to answer back their next time up.
Presley Lively bounced a one-out, single through the right side of the infield, and the freshman moved up to second with two outs on a wild pitch. Azua though induced a fly out to right to end the threat.
•   Erin Peterson walked to begin the Bobcat sixth and she was then moved into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. After a walk to Keely Williams, Coleman lined a single to right, scoring Peterson from second (TXST, 3-0). Trahan loaded the bases with a single to left, and with two outs Megan Kelnar drew a bases-loaded walk (TXST, 4-0).
