South Blanks Arkansas State in Season Finale to Extend Home Match Winning Streak to 28

MOBILE, Ala.- The Jags closed out their regular season with a win over Arkansas State in Mobile Saturday morning to extend their home match winning streak to three straight seasons. South moves to 14-5 on the regular season with a 7-3 record in Sun Belt play. The loss drops Arkansas state to 12-10 on the season with a 5-6 record in Sun Belt action.

South came out the gates quick as Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Kenza Elakili downed their opponent in a dominant 6-1 victory. Lara van der Merwe and Manal Ennaciri made a valiant comeback after falling down 0-3 early. The duo fought back to claim the doubles point in a 6-4 win.

The Jags continued to roll as singles began, with Lara van der Merwe taking care of her opponent 6-4, 6-2. Rio Maeda engaged in a grueling battle but managed to secure the 6-3, 6-3 victory. Delien Kleinhans gave the Jags the win as she downed her opponent 6-4, 6-3 to extend South's home match winning streak to 28 straight.

"That was a good match to finish the season on" said head coach Dr. Jaco Keyser. "It was a great day for the seniors with both of them clinching their matches. We also kept our winning streak at home alive. That is something that we take pride in. I thought the girls played well, Arkansas State is having a great year, they are very competitive and feisty and I think we matched them today. We need to rest up and prepare for the conference tournament as we are peaking at the right time".
