- On today: "We have not played well this series and have been back on our heels for most of it. I thought we started to get something going at the end and hopefully gave ourselves something to build off of tomorrow."
How It HappenedÂ
•   Georgia State jumped out in front in the bottom half of the first as Brister homered to left on an 0-2 pitch from
Tori Miller (5-6), scoring Rayner who had doubled to right with two outs (GSU, 2-0).
•  Â
Caitlyn Gavin drew a lead off walk to begin the third for South Alabama. With one out in the inning, Gavin stole second and then moved to third on a ground out, but the runner was stranded after Sydney Boulware induced another ground out to end the frame.
•   Chloe Middlebrook walked to start the next half inning for the Panthers. After moving into scoring position on a ground out, the left fielder came into score one batter later on Rayner's RBI single (GSU, 3-0). Georgia State later put runners at the corners with two outs after a wild pitch and a walk, and then doubled its lead as Rayner came home on an error when the ball was not fielded cleanly on Mackenzie Walker's stolen base (GSU, 4-0).Â
•   Ryleigh Garrett led off the GSU fourth with a solo shot to center (GSU, 5-0).
•   With one out, Tentinger finally pushed across South's first run of the season with a solo home run to center to cut the deficit to four (5-1).
•   GSU quickly answered right back as Rayner homered (GSU, 6-1) with one out in the bottom of the fifth – her second RBI of the afternoon.
•   Gonzalez led off the seventh with a solo home run to right center (GSU, 6-2) and Sydney Lee then doubled to center – her ninth of the season. Tentinger then unloaded on a 3-2 pitch – her second-straight home run – a two-run shot to left center to cut the Panther lead to two (6-4). After a pitching change, Gavin followed with a walk to bring the potential tying run to the plate with nobody out. Kate Kastelic – the third GSU panther of the inning – entered and retired the final three batters to clinch the win and pick up the save.
