FORT MYERS, Fla.- South Alabama women's tennis grabbed an impressive 4-3 victory over 63rd-ranked Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars improved their record to 6-2 on the season.
Delien Kleinhans and
Rio Maeda made quick work of their opponents in the #1 doubles spot, grabbing the 6-1 win to get the Jaguars started.
Kenza Elakili and
Chems Doha Zeghlouli gave the Jaguars the doubles point, winning 6-3 in the #2 position.
South Alabama battled with Florida Gulf Coast in the singles department as the match neared its end.
Kenza Elakili dominated in the #6 position with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Chems Doha Zeghlouli engaged in a thrilling exchange with her opponent, taking her down 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2. In the final, winner-take-all match,
Delien Kleinhans outlasted her opponent in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win for South.
Head coach Dr. Jaco Keyser on the victory, "Tough and gritty road win for the girls. I am excited about getting a ranked win and holding steady under pressure but I know we can be so much better than what we were today. We need to rest up and reset with a great opportunity tomorrow to continue getting better".

South will remain in Fort Myers, where they will face Yale tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM CT for a neutral site match.
