Jaguars Bounce Back With Win Over Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- South Alabama notched an impressive 4-1 victory over Samford Sunday afternoon in Birmingham.

The win improves the Jaguars to 5-2 on the season.

Delien Kleinhans and Rio Maeda got the Jaguars rolling as the duo earned a gutsy 7-6 victory in the #1 doubles match. Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Kena Elakil helped give South the doubles point as they downed their opponents in a 6-3 victory.

In the singles category, Delien Kleinhans continued to excel in the #1 position, defeating her opponent 6-3, 6-3. Chems Doha Zeghlouli battled her way to a victory in the #3 spot, taking down her opponent in a 7-6, 6-4 win. Freshman Kenza Elakili helped secure the Jaguars their fifth victory of the season as she won 6-4, 7-5.

"It was a solid win against a good Samford team", said Head Coach Dr. Jaco Keyser. "It is a very enjoyable experience coaching this squad as they are very coachable and have a willingness to grind and scrap. Hopefully, I am a good enough coach to help them trust their individual skill sets, improve their inner self-belief, and ultimately maximize their individual and this team's potential".
