MOBILE, Ala. | Southeastern Louisiana used a nine-run seventh inning to break the game open as the Lions picked up a 13-2 win over South Alabama Wednesday night at Jaguar Field.
South Alabama (5-6) had four players record a hit with
Caitlyn Gavin and
Ansleigh Smith each tripling. Southeastern Louisiana improved to 9-3 on the year and were led at the plate by Maria Detiller and Cydnee Schneider, who each had three hits. Detiller also scored three runs and drove in a run, while Schneider scored twice and finished with two RBI.
How It HappenedÂ
•   Detiller doubled to the gap in right center with two away in the top of the first, but
Ryley Harrison (3-2) got Brilee Ford looking – her third strike out of the inning – to leave the Lion base runner in scoring position.
•    Schneider walked to begin the SELU second, and pinch runner Brilee Broussard stole second with two outs to move into scoring position, but Harrison was again able to strand the runner with a ground out to third.•   Southeastern broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fourth. Schneider reached for the second time with a single through the left side, and Maddie Watson tripled to right to plate the SELU catcher (SLU, 1-0). The Lions added to their lead two batters later when Kailey Dixon beat the throw to first for a two-out, infield single to score Watson.Â
•  Â
Amity White led off the bottom of the fourth with a single to left center – the first hit of the game for the Jaguars.
Gabby Stagner then drew her second walk of the night after four-straight were out of the zone to put a pair on, but Hallie Burns induced three-straight pop outs to work out of the jam.
•   The Lions added two more runs in their half of the fifth. With runners at the corners and two outs, Schneider drove in her second run of the game when she beat out an infield single. Another run came around on the play as Brilee Ford came around to score when the throw to first was off target (SLU, 4-0).
•   South Alabama finally got on the board in the bottom half of the inning as Gavin and Smith hit back-to-back triples to right center (SLU, 4-1). Two batters later, Smith came into score on
Presley Lively's RBI sac fly to left (SLU, 4-2).
•   Southeastern broke the game open with nine runs on eight hits and two Jaguar errors to extend the visitor's lead to 13-2.Â
