South Alabama Drops Road Contest at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – South Alabama men's basketball couldn't withstand a strong second half from ETSU Friday night, falling 91-65 to ETSU at Freedom Hall Civic Center. The Jaguars moved to 8–2 on the year while ETSU improved to 7-2. 


KEY STATS

  • Jayden Cooper led the Jaguars with 19 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field and 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. Cooper scored 13 of his points in the first half while helping South Alabama build an early double-digit lead.

  • Adam Olsen followed with 15 points and five rebounds, finishing 6-for-14 from the floor and knocking down three three-pointers.

  • JJ Wheat provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, going 4-for-5 from the stripe and adding two steals.

  • Randy Brady added six points and a team-high six rebounds, while Peyton Law chipped in six points and four boards.

  • South Alabama shot 43.5 percent from three-point range (10-of-23) but was outrebounded 45–29 and outscored 23–3 in second-chance points. ETSU shot 56.8 percent from the field in the second half and 49 percent overall.

KEY MOMENTS

  • South Alabama opened the night with strong energy, using an 11–0 run to build a 20–7 advantage at the 12:15 mark of the first half. Cooper and Olsen combined for five early three-pointers as the Jaguars led by as many as 13.

  • ETSU responded with an extended push to close the half, tying the game and eventually taking a 36–31 lead into the break after a pair of late second-chance baskets.

  • The Buccaneers carried that momentum into the second half, opening with a 16–5 run to stretch their lead into double figures. ETSU's Maki Johnson caught fire from deep, finishing with 29 points and nine made threes.

  • Despite multiple attempts to cut into the deficit, USA struggled to generate second-chance opportunities and ETSU continued to convert on the offensive glass. The Buccaneers outscored the Jaguars 55–34 in the second half and pulled away in the final minutes.

South Alabama returns home next week for the first time in over month to take on North Texas on Dec. 14 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
