BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, the South Alabama men's basketball team mounted a ferocious rally to pull even late, but UAB closed strong to hand the Jaguars an 80–72 loss Friday night at Bartow Arena. The loss moves South Alabama to 6–1 on the season, while the Blazers improve to 4–2.

Chaze Harris delivered a monster performance, finishing with a season-high 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting, adding four rebounds and four assists.

Adam Olsen joined him in double figures with 18 points, including four three-pointers and two rebounds.

UAB controlled the glass, winning the rebounding battle 42–29, including 15 offensive boards.

The Blazers hit 11 threes—eight in the second half and four in the final three minutes.

South Alabama shot 47.2% from the field while holding UAB to 45.9%, and committed just three turnovers while forcing nine.

The Jags scored 34 points in the paint, but struggled from the free-throw line, finishing 16-of-27 (59.3%), including 6-of-13 (46.2%) in the first half.

After falling behind early, South Alabama grabbed its first lead at 11–10 with 13:30 left in the first half. Moments later, Brian Hawthorne converted a driving layup, then stole the ensuing inbound and fed Harris for a transition dunk.

UAB closed the opening period on an 11–3 run—including eight second-chance points—to take a 36–26 lead at halftime.

The Blazers opened the second half strong, extending their advantage to 47–34 with 14:51 to play.

The Jags responded with an 11–4 burst, fueled by Harris' attacks at the rim and three-pointers from Olsen and Randy Brady, trimming the deficit to 56–52 with 8:21 remaining.

After UAB pushed the margin back to double digits, South answered again—this time with a 14–6 run. The surge was capped by a Hawthorne and-one and a Hawthorne dime to Peyton Law to tie the game at 67–67 with 2:56 left.

UAB closed the night with a decisive 13–5 run, knocking down three late triples to secure the win.
