Jags Dominate Second Half to Defeat ULM 26-14

MOBILE, Ala. – After falling behind 14-0, South Alabama Football used a dominant performance in the second half to complete the comeback and defeat ULM, 26-14, Saturday night at Malone Stadium.

The win lifted the Jaguars to 3-7 overall on the season.

KEY MOMENTS
  • ULM scored on its first offensive play of the game, then returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown on the ensuing drive to jump out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
  • The Jaguars responded on their first drive of the second quarter by piecing together a nine-play, 64-yard touchdown drive to make it 14-7. Kentrel Bullock scored the touchdown on a rushing attempt from the one-yard line.
  • South Alabama's defense forced a three-and-out to start the second half. Then, on third and 13, Bishop Davenport hit Anthony Eager for a 48-yard conversion to keep the drive alive. Davenport then capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 14 apiece.
  • Davenport struck again on the next drive with a three-yard rushing touchdown. The Jaguar quarterback hit on throws of 14, 10, 14 and 13 yards to move South Alabama down the field.
  • South's defense completed a perfect third quarter, keeping ULM on its own side of the field for the entire period. The Jags got the ball back again to start the fourth quarter, and Bullock scored on a rushing touchdown from eight yards out to extend the lead to 26-14.
 KEY STATS
  • The Jaguars held ULM to just 154 total yards of offense for the game. The Warhawks could only manage 72 yards rushing while throwing for just 82 total yards.
  • South Alabama's defense did not let ULM cross the 50-yard line in the second half.
  • The Jags controlled the game by rushing for 200 total yards on the night. That allowed South to control possession, and hold onto the ball for nearly 15-more minutes that ULM.
 NOTABLE
  • With two catches for 24 yards in the first quarter, Devin Voisin passed Jamaal Pritchett to move into third place in program history in career receiving yards.
  • Bullock's first-quarter touchdown was the 20th rushing touchdown of his career.
  • Eager's 48-yard reception in the third quarter was the longest of his career.
  • Ty Goodwill's interception in the fourth quarter was his first of the season as the second of his career. It was the fifth interception of the season for the Jaguars, and the first since Nehemiah Chandler's interception against Arkansas State.
QUOTABLE

"It took us a while to get going in the second quarter, but I was proud of the way the guys hung in there. It's daunting being down 14-0. We got a second             quarter score after spotting them seven points on the turnover. The way our defense played from that point on was phenomenal. We pitched a shutout, got multiple stops, and had a takeaway. Very proud of the way our team played in the second half."
