MOBILE, Ala. – On Monday, South Alabama's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced its Executive Board for the 2024-25 academic year.
Graduate Student Jordan Rosier of the women's basketball team will serve her second term as SAAC president, with volleyball junior Anna Loberg serving as the vice president. These two student-athletes are returning to their respective roles after a successful 2023-24 academic year in which their leadership emphasized community engagement. This focus on supporting Mobile helped South Alabama to rank second in the Sun Belt Conference in community service hours – a jump from 9th place in 2022-23.
President Rosier had this to say about her vision for SAAC, "My goal as SAAC president this year is to continue to lead and inspire student-athletes to use their voice. I want to form a sense of community within athletics where we feel like one big family." She went on to add, "I am so proud of our growth in my first year going from ninth to second place in community service rankings. I believe it is important to continue growing our footprint from last year within the city of Mobile, specifically with the youth. I can't wait to serve as SAAC President one last year and continue growing our platform on and off campus."
The remainder of the executive board comprises student-athletes who serve as four chairs that focus on segments prominent to SAAC's objectives: Rhyan Connolly, a graduate student on the soccer team who will serve as the campus engagement chair, Mallory Norton, a junior track and field student-athlete who will serve as the community engagement chair, volleyball sophomore Sarah Gooch who will act as SAAC's external communications chair, and Georgia Cousins, a sophomore soccer student-athlete who is the legislation chair.
SAAC is a student-led service organization created to provide leadership opportunities to those student-athletes who desire to create an impact beyond intercollegiate competition. The organization promotes the betterment of student-athletes throughout the athletics department, the campus, the Mobile community, the Sun Belt Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The following priorities are the foundation for South Alabama SAAC:
A. Provide a forum for student-athletes to share ideas on how to augment the student-athlete experience
B. Represent the student-athlete voice in discussions within the athletic department, University, and sport governing body leadership
C. Establish initiatives to encourage student-athlete participation in campus and community service.
