Football Opens Fall Camp Wednesday with Upbeat Practice

MOBILE, Ala. – Football is back at the University of South Alabama as the Jaguars held their first practice of fall camp Wednesday.

Wednesday's practice marked the first fall camp for the team under the leadership of first-year head coach Major Applewhite. The Jags also saw several new faces take the field in a South Alabama uniform for the first time after completing a new signing class in the offseason.

"It was a good first day," said Applewhite. "It was good to see us get out and operate. I was pleased with a lot of retention from the summer. We got a chance to see a lot of the young guys and new guys do some good things."

Fall camp will run through Aug. 23 with the Jags holding several practices and scrimmages. Fans can follow along at USAJaguars.com and on the team's social media channels. At the conclusion of fall camp, South will turn its attention to the season opener against North Texas on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Hancock Whitney Stadium. Kickoff between the Jaguars and Mean Green is slated for 4 p.m. CT. Fans can purchase season tickets to see the Jags in action by visiting USAJaguars.com/tickets/football.
