MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama quarterback Gio Lopez has been invited to serve as a camp counselor at the prestigious Manning Passing Academy.
 
Lopez recently finished his true freshman season at South Alabama which ended with him being named Offensive MVP of the 68 Ventures Bowl after leading the Jaguars over Eastern Michigan, 59-10, for the first bowl championship in school history. In that game, Lopez threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 88 yards and an additional score.
 
For the 2023 season, Lopez completed 41 passes for 475 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for an additional 154 yards and two touchdowns.
 
The 2024 camp will run June 27-30 in Thibodaux, La. For 27 years, the Manning Passing Academy has been helping players fully realize their potential on and off of the football field. The Manning Passing Academy helps players grasp the fundamentals of their position, and basic offensive and defensive strategies. The Manning Passing Academy gathers some of the most successful and brightest coaches and players from the professional, college, and high school ranks to help all campers learn from the best.
 
Lopez and the Jags will open the 2024 season against North Texas on Saturday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
