NORFOLK, Va. – South Alabama men's tennis dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener Friday afternoon at Old Dominion by a score of 4-0.
The loss dropped the Jags to 5-7 for the season and 0-1 in league play.
"I was really looking forward to this match since we played them twice last year, including in the conference championship," said head coach Nick Brochu. "This is a new, big rivalry in the Sun Belt and I was really looking forward to it, but we fell completely flat. We had no energy, no spark and no celebration after a big point. This match was up for grabs, and whoever turned it up a little more was going to win, and we didn't do that today."
Rostislav Halfinger and
Javier Montoya dropped their doubles match on court two by a score of 3-6 while
Juan Accossatto and Harold van Raemdonck fell, 4-6.
Jack Clements and
Braden Hannig were tied in their doubles contest by a score of 4-4 before the match went unfinished.
On the singles side, van Raemdonck was the lone Jaguar to win a set on the day. He won set one over Maxime Mareschal-Hay, 6-1, before the second set went unfinished. van Raemdonck led 6-5 in the second set before the match was ended. Halfinger and
Javier Montoya both played matches that went unfinished while Clements, Accossatto and Hannig lost in straight sets.
The Jaguars will remain in Virginia for a match at James Madison on Sunday, March 17. First serve is slated for 9 a.m. CT.
