Jags Push Past ULM to Earn Senior Night Victory

MOBILE, Ala. — Four Jaguars finished in double figures as the South Alabama Men's Basketball team used a strong second half to take down ULM 80-69 on senior night Friday in the Mitchell Center. The Jags improved to 16-15 on the season and 8-10 in Sun Belt play, while ULM fell to 11-18 and 6-12 in Sun Belt play. 

Tyrell Jones poured in 21 points, on 7-of-11 shooting from the field with four rebounds and two assists. Samuel Tabe continued to surge, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. 

Marcus Millender stayed hot, logging 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Marshall Kearing earned a new season-high in scoring with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. 

South was locked in on the offensive end the entire night, shooting 55.6 percent from the field, while logging 38 points in the paint and recording 15 assists. The Jags put the clamps on defensively, holding ULM to 39.1 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from behind the arc. 

After trailing by two at the half, the Jags used an explosive 12-4 run to take a double-digit lead midway through the second half and never looked back. 

Notes

  • South Alabama ended the regular season winning six of its final eight games. 

  • Kearing set a new season-high with 12 points with two blocks and two steals. 

  • Tabe has now scored 131 points in the last five games. 

  • Tyrell Jones has logged six 20-point games this season after finishing with 21 tonight. 

  • The Jags had an extremely efficient night offensively shooting 55.6 percent from the field and logging 14 assists with only 10 turnovers.

  • South Alabama dominated the bench battle, scoring 20 points to the Warhawks 11. 

  • South is 10-4 when Millender logs four or more assists in a game. He now ties Jeff all-time great Jeff Hodge in assists as a Freshman with 106 total this season. 

  • Millender also led the Jags in rebounding for the first time this season.

  • South Alabama will now await the release of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament bracket, which will be released later tonight.
