MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Football head coach
Major Applewhite has announced the promotion of five members of last year's coaching staff to new positions within the program.
Former tight ends coach
Rob Ezell has been promoted to the position of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Will Windham, who served as linebackers coach in 2023, will now serve as defensive coordinator and work with the team's safeties. Tre' Williams will continue to serve as the program's special teams coordinator, but will also take on the role of outside linebackers coach. Cameron Cleminson and Kyle Skierski, who were both in analyst roles in 2023, have been promoted to inside linebackers coach and tight ends coach, respectively.
ROB EZELL – OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/QUARTERBACKS COACH
Ezell has served as South Alabama's tight ends coach since 2021. He owns national championship experience both as a student-athlete and a coach.
Ezell spent five years on the staff at Alabama. During that time, the Crimson Tide posted a 65-5 overall mark and a 39-3 record in Southeastern Conference play while winning the College Football Playoff championship in 2017 and '20 and reaching the title game on two other occasions.
As a graduate assistant at Colorado State from 2012-14, Ezell worked with wide receivers and quarterbacks and helped the Rams go 18-9 overall with an 11-5 record in Mountain West Conference action his final two years with the program. CSU capped an 8-6 campaign in 2013 with a 48-45 victory over Washington State in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, while the following season the Rams posted a 10-3 mark after participating in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.
Ezell is a 2011 Alabama graduate, earning a business degree while playing for the Crimson Tide when the team won the national championship in 2009 and again the following fall. He began his coaching career as a student assistant there before going on to receive his master's degree in adult education from Colorado State in 2014.
WILL WINDHAM – DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR/SAFETIES COACH
Windham has worked as linebackers coach for the Jaguars since 2021.
He came to South after working the last three seasons at Kent State, where he started as the program's inside linebackers coach before shifting to safeties. His efforts helped the Golden Flashes to a five-win improvement in 2019 as they would end the campaign 7-6 after claiming the school's first-ever postseason bowl victory with a defeat of Utah State in the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl. KSU posted another winning season in 2020 after going 3-1.
Windham was a defensive quality control coach at Georgia for two years prior to his arrival in Kent, where he was part of a staff that helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2017 Southeastern Conference title and a berth in the College Football Playoff national championship game. His first season at UGA saw the Bulldogs win nine contests including the Liberty Bowl.
He began his coaching career at Saint Stanislaus Prep — where his efforts helped the Rocks win the 4A state championship in 2009 — before becoming a graduate assistant coach at Mississippi State. He has also worked as a graduate assistant coach at Penn State and was the defensive line coach at Davidson during the 2015 season.
Windham — who received his bachelor's degree from Mississippi State in 2007 and his master's degree from the school in '12 — and his wife Whitney have two children, son Tyler and daughter Breckyn.
TRE' WILLIAMS – SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR/OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS COACH
A Mobile native, Williams joined the Jaguars ahead of the 2023 season as the program's special teams coordinator. He was appointed to his position after a one-year stint as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Arkansas-Monticello.
Prior to his stop at Arkansas-Monticello, Williams spent time at Central Florida as a graduate assistant working with the linebackers. Prior to his time at UCF, Williams began his coaching career at Thompson High School as the linebackers coach in 2020. While at Thompson, helped the team finish undefeated and win the AHSAA Class 7A state championship.
Following the conclusion of collegiate career, Williams worked with the recruiting personnel at his alma mater, Auburn. During his playing days, Williams was named a team captain and was a second team All-SEC selection linebacker. During his four-year career, Williams totaled 188 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Auburn in 2017.
CAMERON CLEMINSON – INSIDE LINEBACKERS COACH
Cleminson spent the 2023 season on South Alabama's staff as a graduate assistant, working primarily with the team's outside linebackers. Under his leadership,
Quentin Wilfawn was a second-team All-Sun Belt performer with a team-high 84 tackles. Wilfawn also led the team in tackles for loss with 16, and sacks with 6.5.
Cleminson joined the Jaguars after two seasons on staff at Cincinnati, working under head coach Luke Fickell. He helped guide the Bearcats to an undefeated 2021 season which resulted in an American Athletic Conference Championship and appearance in the College Football Playoff Semifinals. Cleminson's defensive unit at Cincinnati that year held opponents to 21 points or less in 11 of 14 games, including wins over Notre Dame in South Bend and Houston in the AAC Championship.
Before arriving in Cincinnati, Cleminson served as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University, working under head coach Mark Dantonio. At MSU, he worked with star players like Joe Bachie and Kenny Willekes and led the top rushing defense in the country in 2018.
Cleminson graduated from Michigan State University in 2018, earning his bachelor's degree in kinesiology. He later earned a masters of education at Michigan State in 2020.
KYLE SKIERSKI – TIGHT ENDS COACH
Skierski joined South Alabama in 2023 as a defensive quality control analyst.
Ahead of his time at South, Skierski spent the 2022 season as the offensive line coach at Nicholls State. Before Nicholls, SKierski was the offensive line coach at the University of West Georgia for three seasons. During his time at UWG, the Wolves posted a 9-3 record in 2021 and reached the regional semifinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Three of his offensive linemen earned all-conference honors as the unit ranked eighth in the nation in sacks allowed.
Before his three seasons in Georgia, Skierski also spent three years at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. At Millsaps, he served as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. The program won 20 wins in his three seasons and ranked third in the country in sacks allowed. Before Millsaps, Skierski also had stints at Birmingham Southern College and Aurora University as an offensive line coach.
Skierski coached at TCU as a graduate assistant from 2011-13. He helped lead the Horned Frogs to a third-straight Mountain West Conference Championship in 2011, and had four offensive linemen drafted into the NFL during his tenure with the program.
Skierski played his college football at UC Davis and graduated with degrees in communications and organizational studies. Following graduation, he went on to play three seasons in the European Federation of American Football.
