MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama women's tennis used strong singles action to get back in the win column, winning 5-2 over the Samford Bulldogs at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
In tight doubles action, the visiting Bulldogs came out on top, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
Samford claimed the first win of the day, earning a 3-6 win from Alexis Lopez and Noelle Mauro, over the Jaguar dup of
Tereza Dejnozkova and
Elysia Pool.
Samford clinched the doubles point with a win at number two, where Emily Surcey and Grace Keller beat
Nikola Novotna and
Lara van der Merwe 6-3.
Number three doubles finished right after the match was clinched, with Samford's duo of Margaret Jaraczewski and Lauren Waddles winning 6-4 over
Manal Ennaciri and
Otoha Aoki.
Elysia Pool put the Jaguars on the board with a win in straight sets at number two, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Samford's Emily Surcey.
The Jaguars took a 2-1 lead in the match following a win from
Delien Kleinhans at number six singles, winning 7-6, 6-1 over Meredith Taylor.
The home team extended their lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 7-5 win from freshman
Manal Ennaciri, defeating Noelle Mauro.
Tereza Dejnozkova clinched the win for the Jagaurs, getting a 6-7 (4-7) 6-3, 6-1 win over Alexis Lopez from the number one spot.
Senior
Nikola Novotna extended the Jaguar lead to 5-1 on the day, beating Ally Hayduk 7-6, 6-4 at number two.
Samford closed the day with a win from number five singles, where Margaret Jaraczewski beat
Otoha Aoki 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
