South Drops Season High in Points in Dominating Win at Home

MOBILE, Ala.- In their first home game since November 7, the Jags dominated Faulkner in a 79-44 victory.

South got off to a quick start in the opening minutes with a 10- 2 run fueled by back-to-back layups from Princess Okafor Nweze. The Eagles made a dent in the lead scoring six unanswered as the Jags led 10-8 after one.

The Jags began to build their lead as Chrysta Narcisse knocked down her first career three to put South Alabama up 15-8. South stayed hot as Jordan Rosier knocked down two of the Jaguars five threes in the second quarter to push the tempo. The Jags entered the half ahead 31-18.

The Jags carried the momentum from the first half immediately into the second as they began to increase their lead at the start of the third. After a quick bucket from the visitors, South's offense exploded going on a 14-2 run. Jordan Rosier continued to stay hot as she converted two threes in the quarter followed up by stellar all-around play from the Jags rotation. South's defense smothered the Eagles, allowing just four points in the quarter while holding them to 2-15 shooting.

South Alabama continued to run away with it in the fourth as Amyria Walker found her touch, scoring seven of her nine points in the fourth. Aroa Mangas provided two threes off the bench for her first career points at South Alabama to give the Jags the dominating win.

STATS

The Jaguars shot their best all year from the field at 46.2% and hit a season-high 12 threes at 33.3%. Jordan Rosier led South in points with 18 on 6-12 shooting from three while also pulling down four rebounds and dishing out six assists. Rachel Legget recorded a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 10 rebounds with Princess Okafor Nweze chipping in eight points and nine rebounds.

QUOTES

On playing well in the second half, "I think the zone slowed us down because that's what a zone is supposed to do so we talked about the pace and the half-court and how we want to dictate that. We are starting something different, our third quarters have been a struggle for us recently so we put five high-motor kids on the floor to get us off to a really good start and we went on to outscore them 22-4 in the third quarter. We have been wanting to find that energy to kick off the second half. We wanted to get back to dominating on the boards and Rachel ended up with 10 rebounds tonight with Princess having nine so it's good to see us gang rebound and clean up the boards. Very happy with our performance and finally being able to shoot the ball better as they started out cold but they really picked it up and found their confidence".

UP NEXT

South will be back on the road as they head to Oxford, Mississippi to take on 18th-ranked Ole Miss.
