Box Score OXFORD, Miss.- South Alabama fell on the road to ranked foe Ole Miss in a 94-39 final.
The Jags did a great job of pushing the tempo and capitalizing on the Rebels' struggles from shooting in the first quarter.
Daniela Gonzalez put South ahead 9-8 with a deep three in the middle of the quarter, igniting fire within the Jags offense. The hosts began to make their shots but the Jags continued to stay resilient and battle, trailing 22-16 after one.
The Jags struggled against the Rebel defense in the second quarter. Despite their best efforts, South Alabama would fall behind early as Ole Miss got hot. South Alabama would head into the half behind 45-19.
The Jags got off to a better start in the third, putting a dent into the Ole Miss lead early as
Rachel Leggett got a quick steal and layup. The Jags continued to fight but struggled to contain Ole Miss as the Rebels continued to score. For the remainder of the game, South continued to show great effort but ultimately fell in a 94-39 final.
STATS
South shot 31.7% from the field as a whole with
Daniela Gonzalez leading the Jags in points with 13 and pulling down four rebounds.
Rachel Leggett provided solid minutes off the bench with six points and five rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Jags will return to action as they compete in the Stetson Hatter Classic from December 19-20, where they will face Stetson and Bethune-Cookman.
