THIBODAUX, La. –  The South Alabama Men's Basketball team outlasted Nicholls State 70-64 Friday night in Stopher Gymnasium, securing its first win of the 2024-25 season. With the win, the Jags improve to 1-1, while Nicholls fell to 0-2 on the season. A back-and-forth affair saw the Jags trailing by four points at the under-six-minute mark in the second half. Myles Corey and Dylan Fasoyiro powered a Jags offense that made 23-of-30 free throws on the night. Corey scored 18 points, shooting a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, and dished out eight assists. South Alabama started the game fast, leaping out to a 14-8 lead led by three straight three-pointers from Brown. The Jags held strong throughout the first half and played ferocious defense, limiting Nicholls to 29.0 percent from the field to take a 30-24 advantage into halftime.

Nicholls found an answer in the second half and regained the lead 44-40 at the 12:52 mark after hitting three straight three-pointers.

Both sides threw jabs back and forth as the Colonels maintained their lead late into the game, holding a 59-55 advantage at 5:45 on the clock. The Jags came storming back and rocketed out on an 8-0 run highlighted by fast break layups from John Broom and Corey and a corner pocket three-pointer from Fasoyiro to retake the advantage.

NSU fought hard to stay in the game and hit one final top-of-the-key three-pointer, but the Jags stayed composed, and Corey sank seven free throws in the final stretch of the game to help clinch a 70-64 victory.
