South Alabama Dismantles Spring Hill in 34-Point Victory

MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama Men's Basketball team rolled past crosstown rival Spring Hill 95-61, securing its second straight win at home Monday night in the Mitchell Center. The Jags improve to 3-2 with the win, and Spring Hill drops to 1-4 on the season.

Eight of the nine Jaguar players logged points Monday night, with Dylan Fasoyiro leading the way with a season-high 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range and four assists. John Broom nearly secured a double-double, finishing with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Myles Corey stayed hot, recording 13 points with four assists and three steals. Barry Dunning Jr. scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists.

Cantia Rahming and JJ Wheat both had solid showings. Rahming scored nine points in 11 minutes, and Wheat finished with eight points and a game-high eight assists.

The Jags set new season-highs in almost every statistical category, shooting 52 percent from the field with 13 three-pointers. They also were extremely efficient on the night, logging a phenomenal 23 assists while only giving up eight turnovers and forcing 23 Spring Hill turnovers.

" It's always good to get a win, " Head Coach Richie Riley said. " That's two in a row at home for us. Our guys had several moments where they played very well. We haven't been up this much in a game with this group, and I wanted to ensure we stayed focused when we got a big lead. All of the games so far have been very close, and I knew we had to keep our energy levels up. We didn't do that to start the second half, but again, we haven't been in that situation yet. I thought we responded very well and went on a 19-0 run to close things out."

A strong start, led by hot three-point shooting, kept Spring Hill in the game early. The game was tied 16-16 at the 13:16 mark, but the Jaguars hit seven three-pointers in the next nine minutes to take a comfortable 52-25 lead into the half.

The Badgers stayed in the fight coming out of the second half and drained five three-pointers in the first six possessions to cut the deficit to 60-42 with 15:30 remaining in the game. South flipped the switch after the media timeout and put the game away with a 19-0 run, capped off by two Broom three-pointers to secure the 95-61 victory.
