MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama Athletics was well-represented Thursday when the Sun Belt Conference announced its academic honors for the 2023-24 school year.
The Jaguars placed 142 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List, which requires a 3.5 GPA or higher. South also had 106 student-athletes make the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll by have between a 3.0 and 3.49 GPA. Additionally, USA had seven student-athletes win the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award, which is awarded to those who have earned a bachelor's degree in the previous year with a 3.8 GPA or higher, and participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at an NCAA FBS institution.

South Alabama saw significant improvement in the classroom from the 2022-23 year. One year ago, the Sun Belt Conference recognized 194 Jaguar student-athletes for academic achievement. In total, 255 USA student-athletes were honored for their work during 2023-24, an increase of 61 over the course of an academic year.
"Our student-athletes have put countless hours into their work on the field and in the classroom, and this recognition is well deserved," said Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations Jason Kelly. "The University of South Alabama prides itself on outstanding academic achievement, and these student-athletes are a direct reflection of that."
