MOBILE, Ala. – Jamie Sheriff,
Dalton Hughes and
Jacob Meeks have all been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
To earn a spot on the Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or significant contributor while maintaining at least a 3.50 GPA.
Sheriff, a redshirt senior from Terry, Miss., earned a 3.68 GPA while majoring in interdisciplinary studies. On the field, he recorded 45 tackles with 8.5 for loss and three sacks. He also forced one fumble and hurried the opposing quarterback 12 times. In South Alabama's 59-10 victory over Eastern Michigan in the 68 Ventures Bowl, Sheriff was named Defensive MVP.
Hughes is a business administration major who owns a 3.54 GPA. He appeared in all 13 games in 2023 for South Alabama, and made 10 total tackles. Hughes hails from Tupelo, Miss.
Meeks served as USA's kickoff specialist in 2023, handling kickoff duties in all 13 of the Jaguars' contests. He kicked off 80 times for a total of 4,861 yards and 36 touchbacks. Meeks earned a cumulative GPA of 3.66.
