Jaguars to Face Georgia Southern, App State in 2024

MOBILE, Ala. – The Sun Belt Conference announced cross divisional matchups for the 2024 football season Thursday, with South Alabama slated to play Georgia Southern and App State.

The Jaguars' game against Georgia Southern will take place in the friendly confines of Hancock Whitney Stadium while the matchup against App State will serve as a road contest.

South's game against Georgia Southern will be the 10th all-time meeting between the Jags and Eagles. Georgia Southern owns a 7-2 lead in series history, but USA has won each of the last-two matchups. The Jaguars took down the Eagles 38-31 on the road in 2022, and won by a margin of 41-14 on their home field in 2021.

South Alabama defeated App State in 2014 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Since then, the Mountaineers have won four in a row over the Jaguars, including the last meeting in 2021. South's lone win over App was on the road when it earned a 47-21 victory.

The Jags split their cross-divisional matchups in 2023, defeating Marshall 28-0 in the final home game of the season after falling 31-23 at James Madison to kickoff Sun Belt Conference play.

South closed the 2023 campaign with a dominant, 59-10 victory over Eastern Michigan in the 68 Ventures Bowl. It was the first bowl victory in program history, and capped a 7-6 season for the Jaguars.
