MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama men's basketball team will continue its four-game road trip this week, taking on Texas State on Thursday, Feb.1 at 7 p.m. before battling Louisiana for the second time this year on Saturday, Feb.3 at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out

South Alabama shot 52.4 percent from three-point range and fought hard until the very end, but fell 83-79 on the road against Troy, splitting the season series. Tyrell Jones fueled the Jags for the second game in a row, finishing with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Thomas Howell earned a new season-high in scoring with 18 points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc and five rebounds. Louisiana owned the paint, scoring 42 points in the paint and dominating the rebounding battle 42-33. 

Notes 

• South Alabama has dropped three games straight for the second time this season. 

• Tyrell Jones has led the Jags throughout this road trip, averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in two games. He finished with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals against ULM before scoring 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, dished out three assists, and collected three steals. 

• The Jags have been incredibly efficient from the free-throw line this year. South ranks second in the Sun Belt in free throw percentage, shooting 74.1 percent from the charity stripe. Through 21 games, this ties for the fourth-highest free-throw percentage in program history. 

• Thomas Howell has been a reliable force on the boards for the Jags this season, ranking ninth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (6.6). Howell secured a new season-high at Troy, scoring 18 points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc. 

• Isiah Gaiter has scored double figures in 17 out of 21 games this season. After a tough start to the road trip, Gaiter ranks Top-10 in several statistical categories. He is first in minutes per game (34.9), third in free throw percentage (84.3), third in 20-point games (6), seventh in points per game (15.7), and seventh in field goal percentage (46.8).  

• Elijah Ormiston has averaged 16.3 points and three rebounds in the last three games. 

•  South Alabama has picked up two wins over teams in first place in the Sun Belt conference. They defeated Marshall 91-85 on Jan.13 in Huntington and knocked off Troy at home 74-71.

• South ranks fifth in turnover margin, posting a 0.81 margin. 

• After falling behind by 22 points in the second half of their first Sun Belt matchup of the season against Old Dominion, South Alabama outscored ODU 34 to 10 in the final 14 minutes to secure the dramatic 61-59 victory. This also tied for the largest comeback in the Jags' history. The Jags mounted a 22-point second-half comeback to secure a 54-52 victory over Denver in February 2010.

Texas State Notes (7-14; 1-8)

• The Bobcats have lost four out of their last five games, picking up their only win against ULM (67-54) on Jan.13. They rank 13th in the Sun Belt Conference. 

• Texas State has three players averaging double figures in scoring. Jordan Mason leads the Bobcats, scoring 12.7 points per game, Brandon Love contributes 11.2 points, and Kaden Gumbs scores 10.0 points. 

• Love is one of the premier shot blockers in the Sun Belt, ranking third in the conference, averaging two blocks per contest. 

• The Bobcats average 68.7 points per game. 

Texas State All-Time Series

• Texas State leads the all-time series 10-5. The Jags have a 4-4 record at home and a 1-5 record on the road. 

• South Alabama is 2-3 in the last five games against the Bobcats.

Louisiana (13-8; 6-3)

• After dropping three of their first four Sun Belt conference games, the Ragin Cajuns have rattled off five conference wins in a row, winning two games over Texas State and Arkansas State, after the Jags fell to the Cajuns 88-79 on Saturday, Jan.20.  

• Louisiana currently ranks fourth in the conference. 

• Kobe Julian leads the conference in points per game, averaging 18.2 points per contest. 

• Joe Charles is second in the Sun Belt in rebounding, contributing 9.6 rebounds per game. 

• The Ragin Cajuns lead the conference in three-point percentage (37.0) and opponent three-point percentage (27.0).  

Louisiana All-Time Series 

• Louisiana defeated the Jags two weeks ago to claim the advantage in the all-time series 32-31. 

• The Jags are 13-16 on the road in this series. 

• South has lost five out of the last six games to Louisiana.
