MOBILE, Ala. – The South Alabama men's basketball team will continue its four-game road trip this week, taking on Texas State on Thursday, Feb.1 at 7 p.m. before battling Louisiana for the second time this year on Saturday, Feb.3 at 7 p.m.

South Alabama shot 52.4 percent from three-point range and fought hard until the very end, but fell 83-79 on the road against Troy, splitting the season series. Tyrell Jones fueled the Jags for the second game in a row, finishing with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Thomas Howell earned a new season-high in scoring with 18 points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc and five rebounds. Louisiana owned the paint, scoring 42 points in the paint and dominating the rebounding battle 42-33.

Tyrell Jones has led the Jags throughout this road trip, averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in two games. He finished with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals against ULM before scoring 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, dished out three assists, and collected three steals.

The Jags have been incredibly efficient from the free-throw line this year. South ranks second in the Sun Belt in free throw percentage, shooting 74.1 percent from the charity stripe. Through 21 games, this ties for the fourth-highest free-throw percentage in program history.

Thomas Howell has been a reliable force on the boards for the Jags this season, ranking ninth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (6.6). Howell secured a new season-high at Troy, scoring 18 points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc.

Isiah Gaiter has scored double figures in 17 out of 21 games this season. After a tough start to the road trip, Gaiter ranks Top-10 in several statistical categories. He is first in minutes per game (34.9), third in free throw percentage (84.3), third in 20-point games (6), seventh in points per game (15.7), and seventh in field goal percentage (46.8).

Elijah Ormiston has averaged 16.3 points and three rebounds in the last three games.

South Alabama has picked up two wins over teams in first place in the Sun Belt conference. They defeated Marshall 91-85 on Jan.13 in Huntington and knocked off Troy at home 74-71.

After falling behind by 22 points in the second half of their first Sun Belt matchup of the season against Old Dominion, South Alabama outscored ODU 34 to 10 in the final 14 minutes to secure the dramatic 61-59 victory. This also tied for the largest comeback in the Jags' history. The Jags mounted a 22-point second-half comeback to secure a 54-52 victory over Denver in February 2010.
