MONROE, La. – The South Alabama men's basketball team fell to ULM 80-66 Thursday night in Fant Ewing Coliseum. The loss drops the Jags to 10-10 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt, while ULM improved to 6-12 on the year and 2-6 in conference play.
Tyrell Jones led the way for the Jags, finishing with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Elijah Ormiston secured his seventh double-figure scoring game this season, totaling 11 points, four rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
Marcus Millender and Judah Brown both added double figures. Millender scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out four assists. Brown contributed 10 points with five rebounds.
The Jags struggled offensively, shooting 32.3 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from behind the arc. The Warhawks won the rebounding battle 50-39, and five players finished with double figures in scoring.
Game Facts (How it Happened)
- South Alabama bolted out onto a 10-2 run to open the game as Ormiston scored five quick points and Thomas Howell hammered home a dunk to give the Jags the advantage at the 16:13 mark in the first half.
- ULM answered with a 9-0 spurt to take an 11-10 lead at the 13:34 mark in the first half.
- The Jags found a response as Brown and Marshall Kearing splashed three-pointers to grab a 16-11 lead.
- After Jones and Brown drained triples to take a 24-15 advantage, the Warhawks would catch fire and outscored the Jags 26-5 in the final nine minutes to take a 41-29 lead into halftime.
- ULM continued to fire on all cylinders to start the second half as they bolted out onto a 22-7 spurt to take its largest lead, 63-39 with 10:48 left in the game.
- The Warhawks never gave back the momentum and stayed dominant down the stretch, securing the 80-66 victory.
