MOBILE, Ala. | The South Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will begin their season on Friday as they host the 49th Annual Azalea City Classic held at Brookley by the Bay. The women's 5k race will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the men's 5k are set to start at 6:55 p.m.

Pre-Race Notes
• Friday marks the 49th running of the Azalea City Classic hosted by South Alabama
• The Azalea City Classic is the only scheduled home meet of the season for the Jags
• At the 2022 Azalea City Classic, the South Alabama men's runners took three of the four spots, while the women captured four of the top five and all five runners finished in the top 10 at the meet
• In last year's race, South's men's team took home the top spot with only 27 points, marking the eighth time in the last 10 events in which they have done so
• The Jag women also won the meet with 17 points
• A South Alabama runner has won the men's competition each of the past five years and eight of the last 10, and on the women's side, a Jaguar has taken top individual honors for each of the last eight seasons
• Beaty and Sullivan, who will make their Jaguar debuts, will run unattached in the women's 5k
• Also competing in their first events for the South Alabama women are Cason, Elizondo, Gelvez, Giles, Griffith and Miller, while Bernard, Casey and Crews will do so on the men's side
