MOBILE, Ala. | The South Alabama men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Friday afternoon when they compete at the 35th Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival held at Agri Park and hosted by Arkansas.
The women's collegiate "Harter's Habanero" 5K is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., while the men's collegiate "McDonnell Memorial" 8K will start at 5 p.m.

Pre-Race Notes
• The race will be the first 8k race of the fall for the Jaguar men
• The appearance for the Jags marks the first at the event since the 2018 season
• The South Alabama men finished 16th out of 49 teams at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival

Andonet Cheruiyot led the way for the Jaguar women, placing 18th out of the 422-runner field, while the women placed 10th out of 51 teams
• In their season opener three weeks ago, the men's and women's teams swept both the individual and team titles at the 49th Annual Azalea City Classic
• Led by Costa, who earned her first career win in the 5k, South captured the top six spots to finish with 15 points
• Costa has finished in the Top 25 in six of her seven career races
• On the men's side, Johnson and Pkemoi finished first and second, respectively, and Bernard finished ninth as the Jags edged out Mobile by three points
• For their performances, both Costa and Johnson were selected as the Sun Belt Conference Runners of the Week
• This weekend will mark the season debut for Flanagan, who placed inside the Top 10 in five of his six races last fall and seven times over his Jaguar career
