Mobile, Ala. – The Sun Belt Conference announced its academic honors for the 2022-23 school year Wednesday with South Alabama student-athletes well represented on the list.
 
Of the nearly 3,000 student-athletes recognized on three separate lists, 194 of them were from South Alabama. The full list of student-athletes recognized can be seen here: Commissioner's List | Academic Honor Roll | 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award
 
"Our student-athletes have put countless hours into their work on the field and in the classroom, and this recognition is well deserved," said Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations Jason Kelly. "The University of South Alabama prides itself on outstanding academic achievement, and these student-athletes are a direct reflection of that."
 
Student-athletes were recognized on one of three lists depending on the level of their academic achievement. Those lists include the Commissioner's List, the Academic Honor Roll and the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
 
The Commissioner's List honors student-athletes who earned a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) or better during the 2022-23 academic year while the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49 for the academic year. The Jags landed 107 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List and 75 on the Academic Honor Roll.
 
The 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award recognizes student-athletes at FBS football-sponsoring institutions who earned their undergraduate degrees between September 1, 2022 and August 31, 2023 and compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or better upon graduation. In addition, the student-athletes must have participated in at least two years of NCAA intercollegiate athletics at an FBS institution. Twelve Jaguars earned this recognition.
 
"We celebrate the academic achievements of these remarkable student-athletes," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill. "We're extremely proud of their ability to shine at academics while competing in their sports at the highest level."
