TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – South Alabama wide receivers
Caullin Lacy and
Devin Voisin were two of 49 players from around the country to be named Monday to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
With the selection of Lacy and Voisin, South Alabama was the only Sun Belt program to have multiple selections on the preseason watch list and joined Ole Miss, Oregon, Georgia, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Washington and USC as one of just eight programs from around the country to place multiple names on the list.
Lacy was named preseason all-SBC at a pair of positions by both Athlon Sports and PFF, along with a first-team nod by Phil Steele and a second-team all-league honor by the coaches last week, emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the league in 2022. The Mobile, native was a highly versatile player for the Jags as he was used as a receiver and primary punt returner as he was also selected to the 2023 Paul Hornung Award Watch List last week. He recorded 21 returns for 189 yards, averaging 9.00 yards per return and scored a touchdown, and as a receiver, he finished with a team-high 65 receptions for 816 yards, with six touchdowns. Lacy recorded a career-high and school record 12 receptions for 133 yards against ULM.
Along with Lacy, Voisin helped form one of the top offensive trios in the league as he finished with 64 receptions for 867 yards and five touchdowns. The redshirt-junior was named honorable mention all-Sun Belt by the league coaches and media and also earned all-conference honors from Phil Steele. The Crestview, Fla., native recorded six or more receptions four times, and finished with a season-high 11 receptions for 153 yards against Western Kentucky at the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Voision was named second-team all-Sun Belt this summer by the league coaches, as well as Athlon Sports, Phil Steele and PFF publications.
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 650 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.
Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 20, 2023 with the three finalists for the award announced on Nov. 28. 2023. The Biletnikoff Award Winner will be announced on Dec. 7, 2023 at The Home Depot College Football Awards aired live on ESPN at 6 p.m. (CT).
