Jaguar soccer hosts Queens and Kennesaw State for South Alabama Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama kicks off its 2023 home slate this week, welcoming Queens University of Charlotte to The Cage on Thursday, Aug. 24 and Kennesaw State on Sunday, Aug. 27, for the South Alabama Tournament.  
 
South Alabama soccer posters will be given away at both matches, as well as a "Kick it with The Jags" kickaround session after Sunday's game.
 
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and will have live stats available.

South Alabama Notes
  • The Jags opened the season going 2-0, beating their opponents by a total of 13-0.
  • Jaguar newcomers shined in South Alabama's opening weekend, with five newcomers finding the back of the net in South's two wins. Transfer Amber Fortenberry scored twice, while Gabby Hollar, Irene Campo, Melina Descary and Chiara Singarella scored once.
  • Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Jasmine Greene also found the back of the net this weekend, scoring three times and recording one assist.
  • South Alabama enters the weekend with an 11-game win streak at home, last losing on Sept. 2, 2021, when South fell to Ole Miss 4-2.
  • South has 10 international student-athletes on the roster this year.
  • South returns 14 from last year's roster, adding 13.
Queens Notes
  • Queens came out of week one with a win over Wofford and a tie against Western Carolina University.
  • Queens has a squad of 30 players, 18 returners and 12 newcomers. Of the 18 returners, 12 saw regular-season action last season.
  • The Royals return keeper Erica Turner, posted six clean sheets and ranked second in the ASUN in total saves during the regular season. Heading into the year, Turner ranks third in program history in career saves and second in wins.
  • The Royals were picked to finish tied for ninth in the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll.

  • South Alabama and Queens will be meeting for the first time.
Kennesaw State Notes
  • Kennesaw State opened the season 1-0-1, with a 0-0 tie against East Tennessee State and a 1-0 win over Presbyterian.
  • Kennesaw State forward Macie Rainwater was selected to the 2023 All-ASUN Preseason Team, who led the Owls in scoring racking up four goals with nine points earned last season.
  • The Owls were also picked to finish 4th in the Preseason Coaches Poll for the second year in a row.
  • The Owls return keeper Allanah Blye, who started 14 matches last season, recording seven wins and five clean sheets.
  • Sophomore midfielder Aly Bryan scored the lone goal for the Owls this weekend, finding the back of the net Sunday vs. Presbyterian.
Series History vs Kennesaw State
  • The Jags are 1-1 all-time against Kennesaw State, with the last meeting between the teams coming last season, where South won 2-1 at Kennesaw State.
