MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama kicks off the 2023 regular season on the road, traveling to Thibodaux for the Lester Bimah Battle on the Bayou, hosted by Nicholls.
 
The Jags will open the weekend with a match against the Nicholls Colonels Thursday at 7 p.m., then will take on Alcorn State Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1:30 p.m. Neither game will be streamed, but live stats will be available.

South Alabama Notes

• The Jags hosted two preseason exhibitions, falling to Samford 5-2 and battling Auburn to a 0-0 draw.
• Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Jasmine Greene scored both of South Alabama's goals in the loss to Samford.
• The Jags have never opened the regular season at home under head coach Richard Moodie (seven seasons).
• South is coming off of an 11-2-7 record a season ago, going 6-1-3 in Sun Belt action.
• In the SBC preseason poll, the Jags finished first, tied with James Madison.
• South returns 14 from last year's roster, adding 12.

Nicholls Notes

• Nicholls added 14 players to its squad this year, after losing 11 a season ago.
• The squad returns 19 from last year, including five starters, two forwards and three defenders.
• The Colonels finished last season with a 2-16-1 record and went 0-12 in conference matches.
• Nicholls played one preseason scrimmage, tying Jones College 0-0.

Series History vs Nicholls

• South is 9-0-1 all-time against Nicholls, with their last meeting being a 4-0 win over the Colonels (8/22/21).

Alcorn State Notes

• The Braves finished 5-9-4 last season and are now led by first-year head coach Jenna Wallace.
• Alcorn State welcomes back eight started, including sophomores Samara Nunn and Briana Johnson. Nunn scored 15 points in her 15 starts last season. They add 12 newcomers as well.

• The Jags are 2-0 all-time against Alcorn State, with the last meeting being a 15-0 win in Mobile on Sept. 21, 2021.
